Sold As-is with no interior pictures and a semi-clean looking body is craigslist talk for “All of the electronics and interior pieces are fucked ”.

Step 1) Buy car and an SBC to swap in
Step 2) Pull V12 and turn into amazing Top Gear coffee table
Step 3) Sell coffee table to rich gearhead for $2000
Step 4) Take proceeds from coffee table and ... finish building your Jaguar LeMons race car!
Step 5) GLORY!

the best thing is if this is what you want to execute, it doesnt matter a lick what you do or dont do to it. Leather is fucked up? Put in recaros. Motor fucked up, put in a chevy or a goddamn International 7.3 diesel. Go nuts, just lift it and make sure you have side exhausts on it

Kinja'd!!! RallyWrench > 505Turbeaux

You know it, with KCs on the roof and a prerunner front bar. Chevy engines are easy, but I sort of want to do a BMW V12, still with side pipes of course.

If you have access to one why not? There is a ton of space in there vs the Jag mill. Benz might work too, and those are at least more reliable than the BMW by a bit. Didnt those run a GM transmission anyhow with a different bell housing? TH350 maybe?

I think you’re right. That one is too old to have a ZF. I’d want a manual though, maybe I could stick a T5 in there.

honestly this is a good time to get one. people’s opinions are already starting to change on these.

if you can stick a TH400 in there, which I know you can if that wasnt already the original box, you can fit anything...

You don’t see one from the ‘70s every day. Most of the survivors out there seem to be roughly 1986 and up for some reason. Body looks good, and I bet the paint would polish up reasonably well, but the lack of interior photos is troubling - on a Jag, all that leather can get expensive.

That’s true. I much prefer the smaller early bumpers. If the interior is thrashed, I’d probably just rip it out & put in a set of junkyard Recaros or something.

Fantastic idea.

I’ve actually got a 4.0l AJ6 sitting in my garage waiting to be rebuilt with cams, a compression bump, a home-built 6-3-1 manifold and some ITBs. Hoping for 300-350bhp and a mountain of torque.

That’ll then go in an XJS with an LSD at the back, 5-speed Getrag manual, lots of lightweight bits and a side-exit exhaust.

Irritating thing is that they’ve goen up in value over here over the past few years. What was once an easy £500 find is now a £1000-£1500 find which puts it firmly out of the ‘fuck it I’ll buy that’ purchasing category I’m in...

Kinja'd!!! RallyWrench > BiTurbo228 - Dr Frankenstein of Spitfires

And that’s exactly the category this one is solidly in. Most beater XJSs are $3k+ cars here, and are newer.

Thanks :) I’ve also got a bit of a nutso idea to swap a 4.0l AJV8 into one with a supra gearbox on the back running ITBs and standalone engine management (the AJV8’s stock management is tied into the operation of the auto box).

If the V12 fits the AJV8 should do, and the floorpan is the same as the XK so it might jsut work :)

hahaha, I’m seriously thinking of going to look at it during one of the Le Mans coverage breaks tomorrow, it’s seriously been on my mind since I posted this. I don’t have easy access to a trailer this weekend though.
